Forget half-baked epidemiology and its even less baked popular expositions. No more than half the studies can be replicated and the diet studies are the worst. Worry about your body composition---the proportion of lean mass to fat mass---and your hormones. Quiet them down and let the body respond to calm and coherent messages.
Tight Insulin Control

I have discussed tight glucose control and some of its implications. The stark findings of the key study cited here is that tight control was associated with increased mortality.

Leptin Sensitivity

In much the same way that insulin sensitivity is diminished when high insulin levels and large spikes desensitize insulin receptors, a similar point applies to leptin sensitivity. Leptin once was thought to be the magic bullet for obesity; high leptin would produce a satiety signal and reduce food intake. But, it was later found that high leptin induced disappearance of leptin receptors and a loss of sensitivity. A similar fate to that of insulin.
Insulin, Appetite and Weight Loss

I have argued for years that reducing insulin, which stores part of the energy you ingest into fat, will reduce appetite, increase energy expenditure, and lead to a reduction in fat mass and body weight. Because my fasting insulin is at the lowest level the lab can measure, I have no problems with weight management or eating. My appetite leads me to eat the right amount of food naturally, with far more control than a planned diet or eating program could ever achieve. This new experiment supports my long-standing practice.

How does WW look like this at the age of 72?
Aside from EF eating, WW does IF (intermittent fasting). Well, actually, IF is part of EF eating. So, I think we have the food and the eating pattern or timing pretty much down. It is IF that really puts that refinement on body composition. I would suggest to every personal trainer that their clients do some moderate IF to bring the client's metabolism and hormones to a new state.
